Ahead of his I’m A House Gangster showcase at BPM, DJ Sneak talks about his label’s progression and their new compilation, I’m A House Gangster Bangers #1 out now. 1. The BPM Festival: Since I’m A House Gangster’s first release in 2013 with your album Gangster’s Paradise, the label has quickly grown into a lifestyle brand with events around the world and a strong artist collective, could you name some key moments that have attributed to its rapid ascent?
DJ Sneak: We have been very consistent in keepin’ it true to the brand, with our supporters being our biggest influences. We get down with all in good form, those who do their best and support the movement all around the world, who then become brand ambassadors by reppin’ the swag, playing the mixes, spreading the good word about what it is to be a House Gangster. It really is a family thing. We are everything but violent or criminals…
2. The BPM Festival: On the label side, I’m A House Gangster is consistently pushing out quality material. Whether it’s releases from up and comers like Chiqito or scene veterans like yourself or Harry Romero, what made you feel like it was the right time to put together the I’m A House Gangster Bangers #1 compilation?
DJ Sneak: Definitely time to start something like this cause a lot of these tracks are super dope and represent what and how we feel about this music and culture. We welcome everything that is good and funky with the rawness of the OG flavour. A lot of these producers give me their music as soon as it’s finished and they want to get play, so I’m blessed to be surrounded by great producers sending me the heat to release later.
3. The BPM Festival: We know that you’re currently working on a new album and we’re super excited to hear it! How’s progress coming along and can we expect to hear some new material at your I’m A House Gangster showcase at #BPM2016?
DJ Sneak: I am currently in the works of finishing this LP, I’m more than excited to soon be able to showcase my new music with a new twist in production but with that same DJ signature sound that everybody loves, not going to lie, there are going to be so many tracks that will become your new favourites, I guarantee this on the Love for the Music. It’s time to show that the Boss is still in demand and the music will speak louder than any tweet or fakebook posts.
