As you walked up and down the streets of Playa del Carmen last month, it was impossible to not hear the sounds of a mariachi band performing nearby. Ever wonder what’d it be like to see your favorite #BPM2016 artists dressed in their mariachi charro outfits, singing and playing traditional Mexican tunes? We asked our #BPM2016 artists who they’d choose to be in their mariachi band, and why. Check it out!
Matthias Tanzmann
Butch, David Squillace, Luna City Express, and Martin Buttrich – to add some “Olé” to your lives!
Chus & Ceballos
We need a spanish group to sing the original songs, so our band will be starring Hector as the real Mexican leading the vocals and supplying the wardrobe, Rafa Barrios, who is the funniest guy ever, on entertainment duties, Dosem on the the guitar as he is the talented musician and Carlo Lio who doesn’t speak spanish but is a great tequila partner on the bass. Viva la fiesta!
Stacey Pullen
Guti because he is a classically trained musician. Kenny Glasgow so he can sing and serenade the girls. Soul Clap because they got that swag and Marco Carola because wherever Marco goes, the girls go.
Coyu
My boys from Suara’s party! Dosem, Edu Imbernon, Olivier Giacomotto and Ramiro Lopez.
Nicole Moudaber
Hector, Guti, The Martinez Brothers and Jamie Jones! And although he isn’t on the 2016 lineup, Damian Lazarus would have to be the singer!
Art Department
Shonky and Dyed, cause they’re funny to watch perform. Hector and Louie Fresco because I don’t think you can do this without at least two Mexicans, and Stacey Pullen to make it cool.
Cassy
I would pick members who are not afraid to make fools of themselves and have a very big sense of humour… that would be a major prerequisite. Lee Burridge, Rob James, Guy Gerber, and Lee Curtiss from Visionquest.
Andrea Oliva
Hector, a credible Mexican vato. Davide Squillace, always dresses nicely and good eye catcher for the girls, you always need girls for any kind of party :-), DJ Sneak, the house gangster – makes the whole thing look very mariachi. The Martinez Brothers, I am sure one of them can play guitar.
andhim
Solomun, H.O.S.H., Butch, and DJ Tennis because we would all look extremely adorable in our dresses.
Josh Wink
I need my Ovum recordings Latino crew to help my gringo self out! Alix Alvarez, DJ Sneak, Harry Romero (And working on Joeski)!
Ramiro Lopez
Coyu, Rafa Barrios, Dosem, Edu Imbernon because they are good friends and party guys, I´m sure it would be very funny to listen to the Spanish mariachi –kitties! LOL
D’Julz
Apollonia, there are the 3 amigos and Doc Martin, he is the west coast House Padrino.
Lee Curtiss
Is there 5 people that play actual instruments playing BPM? Tough one. I kid, I kid.
Acid Mondays
The Martinez Brothers and Apollonia because less is more, more or less 😉
Lee Burridge
Weirdly my girlfriend saw me as a mariachi band member a few years ago while I was in the old La Santanera so I’m already part of the way there. I pick Doc Martin, Bill Patrick, Pete Tong and Dixon on spoons.
Ryan Crosson
I would want to choose people that I think would vibe musically BUT that could not play any sort of musical instrument, me included. I played the saxophone for one year which doesn’t count. I would want it to be completely awkward sounding but an absolute laugh. Bill Patrick for sure is in there somewhere.
DJ Sneak
I would def pick my lineup at our I’m A House Gangster event. DJ Joeski is a master of east coast dark tribal jazz beats, a veteran in the game for many years. Mark Farina, The Funky Technician, the man has DJ superpowers that often create the best vibes at parties. The “Doctor” Doc Martin aka The “JUJU” man with the power to embrace any crowd and bring them tighter to the dance floor with his West Coast Dust. Miguel Migs with the Power of Soulful deep house – this west coast fella really knows how to rock it, and from the East via Miami One Half of Murk, Oscar G, the man with the master plan, dominating clubs in NYC and Miami like no other. I mean what else do you need?!
